Tuesday Life Skills Day
The TCU women's basketball team is in the midst of its third annual "Life Skills Week," which begins during the first week of school each year. The purpose of the program is to prepare the Lady Frogs for not only the season, but also life after basketball.
"Life Skills Week does a couple of things for our players," eighth-year head coach Jeff Mittie said. "One, it gives us an opportunity to address current things that are going on for student-athletes like academics, social issues, media training, and so forth. Secondly, the session acclimates our newcomers to the program and teaches them what resources are available to allow a smooth transition into college. Our goal is that everyone is more comfortable at the end of the week."
Throughout the week, TCU Athletics administrative personnel and various members of the community conduct interactive workshops designed to assist players to recognize the skills that must be developed to help them manage various off-the-field situations, and to proactively address issues that may arise during their career. The workshops challenge players to use their resources and to think and manage their lives more effectively.
"We balance the week out," Mittie said. "It's important for the players to have some fun. While a lot of the seminars are academic-related, we also do activities like a ropes course and such that are interactive. These kinds of activities develop chemistry between our players."
