FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU Athletics Department has announced that more than half of its 397 student-athletes earned grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher during the 2006 spring semester as the Horned Frogs achieved an impressive 2.85 cumulative departmental GPA.
The Frogs' overall grade-point average rose from a 2.83 in the fall 2005 semester. Highlighting the effort were 31 student-athletes who registered perfect 4.0 GPAs. Twenty-seven team members were awarded TCU Scholar honors for their efforts.
"We are extremely proud of the academic performance of our student-athletes," TCU Athletics Director Danny Morrison said. "It's a great tribute to the hard work, determination and dedication of our student-athletes, coaches and academics staff."
In all, 51 percent of Horned Frog student-athletes recorded spring semester GPAs of 3.0 or higher, 41 percent posted at least a 3.2 and 22 percent were 3.5 or higher.
"Our student-athletes continue to put forth outstanding effort in the classroom," said Chris Uchacz, Director of the Athletics Academic Services Office. "We are committed to achieving our ultimate goal, which is posting a 3.0 GPA as a department."
Thirty-eight TCU student-athletes graduated in the university's May ceremony, giving the school a hefty total of 67 for the 2005-06 academic year.
