FORT WORTH, Texas - The 16th-ranked TCU women's tennis team continues to make history this season. After capturing the Mountain West Conference regular-season and conference championships, the 2006 Frogs added one more accolade to their resumé by becoming the first TCU team to host the NCAA Regionals the tournament committee announced on Wednesday."I'm really excited we are hosting, it is a great opportunity for us," stated TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "We are crawling up there to become one of the better programs in the country and this is a step forward."
The Frogs dominated in their first season as a member of the MWC, going 11-0 and claiming both championships.
TCU (21-6) will host Conference USA Champion Rice (13-12) on Friday, May 12, at 6 p.m. (CDT) to conclude the opening round of 2006 NCAA Tournament. The Frogs are 21-11 all-time versus the Owls and posted a 6-1 victory on April 8, 2005, in the last meeting.
Big 12 runnerup Texas (17-11) and Arkansas (10-10) will square off in the first regional match at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
All four institutions in the regional are former members of the Southwest Conference.
"It's a window of opportunity for us to showcase our talents," concluded Borelli. "I'm excited and it is really important for us to get a great fan base. We really need a lot of fans to come out. It's going to be a great opportunity for us to get support and that is what we really need."
