
Three Frogs headed to NCAA individual and doubles championships

FORT WORTH, Texas - Seniors Rafael Abreu and Jordan Freitas and sophomore Andrei Mlendea will make their ways to Stanford, Calif., on Wednesday to compete in the 2006 NCAA singles and doubles championships.
Abreu and Freitas are currently ranked 27th in the ITA doubles poll. The duo recorded wins over four ranked opponents during the season including an 8-6 decision over No. 14 Mark Growcott and Ken Spupski of LSU.
Mlendea holds the No. 34 spot in the singles poll. He is a two-time Mountain West Conference Player of the Week and was recognized to the all-conference squad after going 5-1 versus MWC foes. Mlendea's season is highlighted with victories over eighth-ranked Jerry Makowski of Texas A&M and fourth-rated Lars Poerschke of Baylor.
As a team, TCU claimed the 2006 MWC Tournament Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA team tournament. The Frogs suffered a 4-0 second-round defeat to No. 2 Pepperdine to close their season with a record of 18-10.
