FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU freshman golfer Tom Miles and senior track athlete Julie Curtis were selected the school's Men's and Women's Student-Athletes of the Week on Tuesday. Both Horned Frogs are first-time honorees.
Miles claimed a runner-up finish at the Mountain West Conference Championships last week in Sunriver, Ore. The Dublin, Ohio, product registered a three-round total of 216 (E) to finish with a share of second place, just one stroke out of the medalist spot. Miles' best round was a 2-under-par 70 to open the event. It was the first top-10 finish of his collegiate career.
At last week's Penn Relays, Curtis opened up for TCU with a record-breaking performance in the college women's 400-meter hurdles championship event. The native of Manhattan, Kan., won her heat with a personal-best time of 59.36, breaking her own school record of 56.40, which she set at the Conference USA Outdoor Track Championships in 2003. Curtis, who placed 10th overall in the event last Thursday, has posted NCAA regional qualifying marks in the 400-meter hurdles twice this season.
