
Baseball and women's golf sweep TCU monthly awards

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Baseball standout Chad Huffman and women's golfer Catherine Matranga are TCU's Male and Female April Student-Athletes of the Month, while baseball's Austin Adams and women's golfer Elin Emanuelsson are the scholar-athlete recipients.Huffman, a candidate for the Wallace Award as the nation's top player, batted .406 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs in 17 games. The junior from Missouri City, Texas, was instrumental in TCU posting a 12-5 record for the month and taking over the lead in the Mountain West Conference.
Matranga had TCU's top score in both tournaments as the Horned Frogs posted a pair of top-five finishes. The Fort Worth native placed 14th individually with a 4-over-par 220 at the Northwestern Invitational. Mantranga then led the Mountain West Conference Championships for two rounds before finishing 10th.
A 3.2 cumulative grade-point average is required to be eligible for Scholar-Athlete of the Month.
Adams had a team-best .426 average while driving in eight runs in April. The junior from Henderson, Texas, has raised his season average to .320.
Emanuelsson, a native of Nacka, Sweden, placed 30th at the Northwestern Invitational as the Frogs were fifth out of 14 teams. She was 17th, TCU's second-best finish, at the MWC Championships.
