FT. WORTH, Texas - Virgil Hodge of the women's track team and baseball's Andrew Walker have been selected the female and male recipients of the TCU Student-Athletes of the Week awards. It is the second time Hodge has been picked for the weekly honor this season, while Walker receives his first weekly recognition.
At the Seventh Annual TCU Invitational last Saturday, Hodge notched a pair of gold medals in both the women's 100 and 200 meters. She posted NCAA regional qualifying marks in both events, finishing 11.34 and 22.87, respectively.
Her time in the 200 meters (22.87) is the fastest in the Mountain West Conference and currently ranks third in the nation.
The sophomore sprinter also ran the second leg in both the women's 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads. The Flyin' Frog women broke the previous meet records in both relay events with winning times of 44.34 and 3:36.63, respectively.
Walker, the fourth baseball player to garner the weekly accolade this season, went 5-for-13 (.385) with four RBIs against BYU this past weekend to help the Frogs to their third straight conference series victory.
In game one against the Cougars, Walker was 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk and a two-run home run in the seventh that proved to be the gamewinner in a 6-4 victory. In game two, he tallied two hits in five at-bats. He gave the Frogs a 2-0 lead in the first with a RBI single and got the Frogs seven-run fourth inning started with a walk. He also singled in that inning as well. In the series finale, Walker tied the game at one apiece in the second with his fifth home run of the season.
