FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior college transfer Shannon Behling has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the TCU men's basketball team in 2006-07, as announced by head coach Neil Dougherty on Tuesday. Behling, a freshman at Aiken Technical College in Graniteville, S.C., is the first JUCO transfer to commit to the Horned Frogs next season.
"My visit to TCU was a great one," Behling said. "I really liked coach Dougherty and the team. I'm excited about coming to TCU and can't wait to play for the Frogs next year."
The 6-foot-7, 206-pound guard was instrumental in Aiken Tech winning the Region X regular-season championship in March. Behling helped his Knights advance to the championship game against Monroe College (N.Y.) in the District 3 Tournament, but came up short of qualifying for the 16-team NJCAA Division I Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. He finished the 2005-06 season, averaging 13 points and seven rebounds per game.
Originally from Columbia, S.C., Behling attended Columbia High School where he was an all-region, all-area and an all-star basketball player. He lettered four years in basketball, and was also a member of the baseball team all four years. The South Carolina native also shined in the classroom, as he was listed among Who's Who of High School Scholars and was named to the National Honor Roll.
Behling will join Keion Mitchem, who committed to TCU last week, and early signees Luke Tauscher and Jason Ebie next season.
