Four Lady Frogs land spots on all-conference teams

FORT WORTH, Texas (March 6, 2006) -- Four TCU Lady Frogs earned all-Mountain West Conference honors based on a vote of the league's nine head coaches, the MWC office announced Monday. Junior Natasha Lacy landed a spot on the all-MWC second team, Adrianne Ross was listed on the third team, and Ashley Davis and Lorie Butler-Rayford took home honorable mention accolades. Only BYU, with five, had more honorees than TCU.
Lacy, a two-time MWC Player of the Week, was the only player to rank among the league's top five in scoring (14.5 ppg), rebounding (7.4 rpg) and assists (4.0 apg). On the year, the 5-10 junior guard tallied seven double-doubles and reached double figures in points 22 times. She scored 31 points against Air Force, the most by a league player during the 2005-06 campaign.Last year, the native of El Paso, Texas, was a third-team all-Conference USA choice.
Ross, a 5-8 guard who topped the league is steals at 2.6 per game, also ranked among the league's top 10 in free-throw percentage (7th, 78.7) and scoring average (10th, 12.7). Ross, who missed all but five games last year due to a knee injury, was the lone Lady Frog to start all 27 games of the regular season. The sophomore from Hobbs, N.M., topped the 20-point mark a team-high five times.
Davis, the MWC Player of the Week in mid-January, was third on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game. A 6-0 forward, she reached double figures 16 times, which included a 22-point performance at league champion BYU. In conference games, the junior from San Antonio led the league in free-throw percentage (95.3) and finished fifth in 3-pointers made (33).
Butler-Rayford, a 5-11 forward from Inglewood, Calif., averaged 8.6 points and 6.5 rebounds over the season. She was listed among the MWC's top 10 in rebounds (8th) and steals (10th). During league play, Butler-Rayford upped her rebounding average to 7.2, a figure that ranked fifth in the conference. In addition, she collected five double-doubles, four of which came in conference play.
Seniors Ambrosia Anderson of BYU and Kim Smith of Utah were selected as the Mountain West Conference Co-Players of the Year as chosen by the nine head coaches. Newcomer of the Year honors went to Wyoming's Megan McGuffey, while the Cowgirls' Hanna Zavecz was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year. BYU's Jeff Judkins, who led the Cougars to their first MWC regular-season title, earned his first Coach of the Year honor.
