FT. WORTH, Texas - Track and field athlete Joe Brown and Andrea Morgado of the women's tennis team have been named TCU's student-athletes of the week. It is the first career recognition for both sophomores in their respective sports.
Morgado, who hails from Plano, Texas, went undefeated in both singles and doubles play to help TCU remain unbeaten in Mountain West Conference action last week. The sophomore turned in a 2-0 record at No. 6 singles and posted a 3-0 mark at the No. 2 doubles spot, as the Frogs blanked all three league opponents over the weekend (Wyoming, Air Force and Colorado State).
The new MWC and school record holder in the javelin, Brown recorded a personal-best throw of 222-05 (67.79m) in the Frogs' outdoor season-opener at the Dr Pepper Invitational in Waco, Texas, last weekend. The regional qualifying mark broke the previous conference record (219-06.00/66.90m) set by Tim Fritz of Air Force in 2003. It also established a new school record (202-07/61.75m) that Brown set last year at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
