FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team moved up four spots from No. 16 to No. 12 in this week's FILA Collegiate Tennis rankings released on Tuesday. The ranking is the highest for the Frogs since their No. 14 preseason ranking to start the 2006 season.
"I'm pretty excited," said TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "My goal is to get better. We have a long way to go and we can not just be satisfied with this ranking. It is a long season, but this is definitely a great place to start and I am excited."
Currently 2-2 on the season, the Frogs posted an impressive 4-3 victory over then No. 7 Vanderbilt on Feb. 2 at the USTA-ITA National Team Indoor Championships held in Madison, Wis. Beating the Commodores tied a TCU school record for highest-ranked team defeated. It was set initially last season in a 4-3 win over Clemson on Feb 13.
The Frogs' squad features four players with Top 75 rankings in sophomore Nicole Leimbach (No. 5), senior Helena Besovic (No. 22), freshman Anna Sydorska (No. 30) and junior Ana Cetnik (No. 43).
Besovic and Sydorska also represent the Purple and White in doubles, garnering the No. 40 spot. The tandem tallied a big win over No. 11 Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long of North Carolina on Saturday at the National Indoors.
The team returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Tulsa. Match time is scheduled for noon.
