FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU Volleyball Head Coach Prentice Lewis announced the signing of the fall class of 2007. In all, the volleyball team inked two recruits whom will be freshman next season. Irene Hester (Boswell, Texas) and Christina Hudson (Yorba Linda, Calif.) will join the TCU volleyball program in the fall of 2007. Both have been ranked by Prep-Volleyball.com as one of the top 250 seniors in the country."We are very excited to have both Irene and Christy join our program," remarked Coach Lewis. "They are great athletes and they both have a bright future here at TCU. Irene should see some time on the outside and possibly help us on the right side as well. Christy will help us both in the middle and on the right side."
Hester has been a star at Boswell High School for head coach Jennifer Chandler. In her four-year career at Boswell, Hester has rewritten the school record books. As a junior, she set single-season marks for kills in a season (423) and aces (94). This past season, Hester broke her own record of 403 digs in a season set a year ago by digging 431 balls. She finished her senior campaign with 361 kills, a .308 hitting percentage, 84 aces and 31 digs.
Her accomplishments on the court garnered her numerous accolades throughout her career. A two-year captain as voted upon by her teammates, Hester has been a four-year all-district selection, including second-team as a freshman and a first-team performer each of the last three seasons. She was honored as the district's Outstanding Hitter as a junior and Most Valuable Player following her senior season.
A captain at Esperanza High School her senior season, Hudson has been a standout for the last four years for head coach Isaac Owens. She has twice earned Athlete of the Week honors this season and was named the Aztec Athlete of the Month in October. At the completion of her junior campaign, Hudson was named first-team all-league and all-CIF as well as being honored with the Coach's Award. She has been an all-tournament performer four times in her career. She was named the Most Improved Player following her sophomore campaign.
While achieving at the prep level, Hudson has also excelled at the club level as well. She helped her team, the Golden West Black 18's, to a fifth place "Open" finish at the Junior Olympics in Atlanta. During the 2005 season, she was named the team captain for a squad that participated in the Junior Olympics held in Salt Lake City. She was named by Prep-Volleyball.com as one of the Top 100 sophomores.
"Both athletes were highly touted and we are excited that they chose TCU." said Lewis.
