Laramie, Wyo. - The TCU men (3-2, 1-2) defeated the Cowboys (2-1, 0-1) of Wyoming 126-115, while the women (6-3, 1-3) dropped the meet to the Cowgirls (3-1, 2-0) 146-97 Saturday in a Mountain West Conference dual meet. It marked the men's first conference win of the season.
"This was a big victory for our men on the road today, and we'll just look to improve on the women's side," said TCU head swimming coach Richard Sybesma. "I felt like we swam very well, being at a disadvantage because of the altitude."
The men's squad had three double-event winners, including Yousif Del Valle, Alejandro Gomez, and Scott McCracken. Del Valle took the 200-free event in a time of 1:43.03, and was victorious in the 100-fly (50.64) event as well. Gomez swept the long-distance events, recording a time of 4:44.46 in the 500-free and a time of 10:02.65 in the 1000-free. Junior Scott McCracken took the top spot in the 50-free with a 21.29 clocking, while recording a time of 47.10 in the 100-free.
Senior Guillermo Ramirez also got in on the action, recording a win in the 100-back with a time of 52.01.
The men won both relay events, including the 400-free relay to seal the victory. Included in the winning relay team were Scott McCracken, Jonathon Berrettini, Josh Bagby and Jason Hauck.
On the women's side, Erica Tate and Jennifer Ferguson recorded double-event wins. Tate took victories in the 50-free (24.29) and 100-free (52.75), while freshman diver Jennifer Ferguson won the one-meter (277.58) and three-meter (311.33) diving events. Ferguson, now 10-0 in her collegiate career, slated the fourth-highest score in TCU history in the three-meter dive.
The Frogs will get back to action Nov. 18 at noon at the University Recreation Center against San Diego State and Centenary.
