
Women to compete at NCAA Pre-Nationals Meet

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's cross country team continues competition this weekend at the highly-competitive NCAA Pre-Nationals Meet held on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
TCU, which ranks fifth in the USTFCCCA South-Central Regional Poll, will be among the 87 women's teams that will be able to test themselves at the site of the 2006 NCAA Championships, which will take place on Nov. 20.
The Horned Frogs will learn Friday as to which time slot they will run. TCU will either compete in the women's 6K blue race that begins at 11 a.m. or the women's 6K white race begins that 11:35 a.m.
Headlining the field on the women's side at the NCAA Pre-Nationals are the top-three ranked teams: Stanford, Colorado and Michigan. The women's field also includes the Nos. 4-12, 14-18, 21-24, 26, 27 and 29 ranked squads.
TCU enters Saturday's competition after placing third at the Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 30. In TCU's other meet this season, the Horned Frogs placed second at the North Texas Invitational on Sept. 9.
TCU is led by senior Calandra Stewart, who has top-four finishes in each meet this season. Stewart placed fourth at the Cowboy Jamboree and earned the second scoring position with a time of 17:31 in the 5K. In the women's 2 mile at the North Texas Invitational, Stewart placed third with a time of 11:06.38.
Saturday's meet concludes the regular season for the women's team, who will rejoin the men's team at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Oct. 28.
