FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's rifle team will return to the range this Saturday following a two-month break from competitive action. The team will travel to Akron, Ohio to take on the University of Akron and West Virginia University in 60-shot air rifle and 60-shot smallbore matches.
The Frogs will be shooting both events on the same day for the first time this season. Smallbore will begin at noon and will be immediately followed by the air rifle match.
TCU looks to build on the progress that was made during the fall semester that saw the team go undefeated in dual-meet competition. Shooting smallbore for the Frogs will be juniors Nikki LeCompte and Celeste Green as well as freshmen Tanya Gorin and Kristine Tisinger. Green set the school record in the event earlier this year against Nevada with a score of 580.
Fellow junior Emily Conway will join Green, LeCompte and Gorin on the air rifle unit. Gorin currently holds the school's 60-shot air rifle record with a mark of 581, set against Arkansas-Fort Smith in the team's last competition.
"The team is coming back from the break with a positive, refreshed outlook," head coach Karen Monez said. "We are ready to take on the challenges that lay ahead in the upcoming competitions."
Following this weekend's competition, the Frogs will have two more dual meets before traveling to Lexington, Va. to shoot in the NRA Sectionals & NCAA Qualifier Feb. 11-12.
