Frogs set to host TCU Horned Frog Invitational

The TCU women's soccer team begins a stretch of five of its next six matches at home when the team hosts the TCU Horned Frog Invitational this weekend at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. Boston University, Baylor and Northwestern State (La.) will all participate in the tournament. The first match between Baylor and Northwestern is slated for a 2 p.m. start on Friday, with TCU vs. Boston to follow after the conclusion of the first match. Sunday's matches will pit Boston against Baylor in the early game starting at 1 p.m., while TCU vs. Northwestern State wraps up the tournament.
TCU picked up a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over the Cougars on Tuesday. Houston came out on fire in the first 25 minutes of the match and scored in the 14th minute before TCU responded with three unanswered goals. A Ginny Hubbard shot tied the game, and K.D. Waters gave the Frogs the 2-1 lead with 30 seconds to go in the first half. Lauren Pope recorded the lone goal in the second half on a pass from Moran Lavi. Katy Buchanan made nine stops, including six in the first half, to lead the Frogs to victory.
News & Notes: Against the Terriers
• The Frogs and the Terriers have never met on a soccer pitch. Boston University hails from the American East Conference and finished fourth a season ago in the AEC.
Scouting the Terriers
• The Terriers enter this weekend with a 2-3 record and will have played three matches in a span of five days. They have yet to string together a winning streak after falling 1-0 to Brown on Wednesday night. Brown scored in the 20th minute and made the goal stand, despite allowing 25 Terrier shots. Prior to that, Boston earned an overtime victory over Hofstra on a goal by Meghann Cook. They average 15.4 shots per game, but have only scored three goals on the year. Christina Reuter and Stephanie Dreyer split time in goal. Reuter is tops with a 0.48 GAA.
Against the Demons
• The Frogs and the Demons will meet for just the second time in program's history. TCU won the only meeting between the two schools in 1996. It was a 9-0 shutout victory over the Demons in Fort Worth on Sept. 15. The goal output is tied for the fourth most in a single match in the TCU record book.
Scouting the Demons
• NSU is the favorite to win the Southland Conference this season and are off to a 3-1 start. Their lone loss of the 2005 campaign is a 1-0 setback to Louisiana-Lafayette. They are an offensively talented team, averaging four goals a game. Julie Zavala is the leading scorer with four goals, while Krystal Donaldson is the go-to girl between the pipes. She has surrendered just three goals this season and has made 11 saves. The Demons have outshot their opponents 52-29 this season and outscored them 16-3.
Spreading the Wealth
• TCU has piled up 23 points on nine goals and five assists. Eight different Horned Frogs have recorded at least one point this season, all of whom have a goal to their credit. A year ago, only nine Frogs recorded at least one point. Caroline Starns leads with two goals and an assist.
Senior Leadership
• Senior Moran Lavi is having the season of her career so far. She has points in two straight matches, including a three-point night against SMU. Against Houston, she scored her first goal since Sept. 12, 2002 against Rice. Lavi has also picked up two assists this season. She ranks second on the squad with four points, one behind leader, Caroline Starns.
Not On My Watch
• With an injury sidelining fellow goalkeeper Ashley Pierret, Katy Buchanan has seen the bulk of the time between the pipes. She has played well under the pressure, racking up 20 saves in four games. Against Houston, Buchanan made nine saves, including six in the first half. The nine saves are a career high for the junior.
