- Starting tailback Lonta Hobbs did not play due to a groin injury. Robert Merrill started in his place.
- Utah's first-quarter touchdown represented the first opening-quarter points surrendered by TCU's defense this season.
- A Cory Rodgers 24-yard first-quarter reception was the 115th of his career, moving him into sole possession of seventh place on the TCU all-time list. He now has 118.
- True freshman Aaron Brown made his collegiate debut on TCU's third series and had five carries for 52 yards to key a 7-play, 62-scoring drive that tied the game at 7-7.
- Brown's 163 yards rushing are the most by a TCU freshman since Merrill gained 204 yards on 22 attempts at Houston (Oct. 25, 2003).
- Merrill became the 11th player in TCU history to reach 2,000 career yards. He now has 2,049 yards.
- Weak safety Marvin White, making his initial start of the season, recorded the first interception of his TCU career with a first-quarter pick.
- Wide receiver Michael DePriest, who had 19 catches last season, had his first grab of the year in the second quarter. A hamstring injury limited his availability in the opening two games. He then had the game-winning 4-yard touchdown reception in overtime.
- Senior quarterback Tye Gunn's 39-yard quick kick, which pinned Utah at its own 3-yard line, was the first punt of his career.
- Rodgers' three kickoff returns gave him 59 in his career, tying Toby Morey (1989-91) on top of the Frogs' all-time chart.
- Chris Manfredini made a 30-yard field goal on his first career attempt for TCU. He was 10-of-11 on field goals for Cincinnati in 2003.
- TCU won in overtime for the first time since it opened last season with a 48-45 double-overtime victory over Northwestern. Both games were the home opener and televised on ESPN.
- Tonight's game on ESPN marked Utah's second national TV appearance this season. The Utes have played on national TV at least once in each of the last 15 years. Utah had won its last nine nationally-televised games, dating back to a three-point loss at Michigan in 2002. Utah had won its last four games on ESPN, defeating California and Oregon in 2003, Texas A&M in 2004 and Arizona in the 2005 season-opener.
- Quinton Ganther's first-quarter TD run marked the first time Utah has scored in the first quarter this season. In fact, it was the first time either team has scored in the first quarter of a Utah contest in 2005.
- Ganther has scored a touchdown in each game so far in 2005.
- Brian Johnson's first-quarter interception was his first of the season.
- TCU's third-quarter field goal by Manfredini tied the game at 17-17. It marked the first time this season that Utah has not been in the lead during the second half of a game.
