TCU women's golf heads to Badger Invitational

MADISON, Wis. -- The TCU women's golf team opens its 2005 fall season tomorrow at the Badger InvitationalThe 12-team tournament includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Illinois State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico State, Oklahoma, Purdue, TCU, Texas A&M and host Wisconsin.
Missouri, Purdue and Texas A&M competed in the 2005 NCAA Tournament and finished in the top 25. The Frogs placed 19th at the NCAA Regionals.
The teams will play 36 holes tomorrow and 18 Monday on the par-72, 6,421-yard University Ridge course. Live scoring will be available on the web at golfstat.com. Sunday plays begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start with the second round to follow. The final 18 holes Monday will commence at 8 a.m.
"We're real excited to get started," TCU coach Angie Larkin said. "We've got five players here who are playing well with some good rounds in qualifying.
"We've got a good shot at winning this tournament. Individually, several of our players will compete for medalist honors. It will be our first time on this course which is an awesome facility. The national championships were held here a few years ago."
Representing TCU at the Badger Invitational will be Catherine Matranga (Jr., Fort Worth), Camille Blackerby (Jr., Breckenridge), Stacey Bieber (Jr., Winnipeg, Canada), Traci Robison (Sr., Arlington) and Carrie Morris (So., Tyler).
Blackerby spent the entire 2005 season ranked in the top 70 nationally, finishing 65th overall with a 73.03 stroke average and four top-10 tournament finishes.
"Our goal is to focus on good, consistent golf and putting ourselves in position for success," Larkin said.
Following the Badger Invitational, TCU will next play Sept. 26-28 at the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
