NORMAN, Okla. - Four members of the Conference USA champion TCU men's golf team have been named to the PING South Central All-Region team, the Golf Coaches Association of America has announced. Seniors J.J. Killeen and David Schultz, junior Colby Beckstrom and sophomore Drew Stoltz have all been recognized for their accomplishments during the 2004-05 college golf season and are now eligible for PING All-America honors.
Each of the nine PING All-Region teams is comprised of 15 golfers and any player ranked in the top 75 nationally in either Golfstat or the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. TCU had more members on the 15-person South Central team than any other school in the region.
Killeen, the 2005 Conference USA Golfer of the Year, is currently rated 44th nationally according to the Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings. He owned a career-best 72.09 stroke average and placed among the top 20 in all but two of the Horned Frogs' events this year. In April, he became just the third athlete in school history to play on four conference championship teams. This July, he will compete on the United States Team at the 2005 Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship.
Schultz, an honorable mention All-American in 2003, grabbed his third consecutive first-team all-conference award in April. He finished the season with a 72.51 stroke average and five top-20 finishes. Golfweek's 65th-rated player recorded nine sub-70 rounds on the year and had a second-place finish at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. Named to the Conference USA All-Decade Team, Schultz placed third at this year's C-USA Championships.
A two-time first-team All-Conference USA selection, Beckstrom snagged co-medalist honors at the 2005 league championships. Beckstrom, ranked 67th nationally, carried a team-best 72.06 stroke average on the year and finished among the top 20 in five of 11 tournaments. In addition, Beckstrom became the first active Horned Frog golfer to qualify for a PGA Tour event, the 2005 EDS Byron Nelson Championship.
Stoltz burst onto the scene in the spring semester, seeing action in the Frogs' final five events of the year. Stoltz shared Conference USA medalist honors with Beckstrom after posting a 7-under-par total of 209. A member of the all-tournament team, he registered a 72.76 stroke average and had a pair of top 20 finishes on the year. He completed the campaign rated 86th nationally.
