
TCU Falls One Spot To 18th In Latest ITA Rankings

Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team fell one spot to 18th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings that were released this morning. The Frogs dropped a spot after they lost a heartbreaker to Tulane, 4-3, in the final of the C-USA Championships last Sunday in Fort Worth.
In singles, Story Tweedie-Yates moved up one spot to 15th in the country. The senior has won 16 consecutive matches this season to push her overall record to 32-4. Tweedie-Yates has a 16-4 record against ranked players, which includes victories over two in the top-10 in Aibika Kalsarieva of Kentucky and Nicole Leimbach of USC.
Junior Helena Besovic jumped five spots to 50th in the nation. The Sarajevo, Bosnia, native has a team-leading 33 wins to just 9 losses this year. At the C-USA Championships, Besovic went 3-0, which included a three-set victory over then-No. 53 Jenny Kuehn of Tulane.
In doubles, sophomore Ana Cetnik and Tweedie-Yates fell two spots to 36th in the country after they had their 13-match winning streak snapped at the hands of Maria and Darya Ivanov of Tulane in the conference final. With the defeat, the pair now has a 19-2 overall record in dual matches.
The Frogs, who are 20-4 this season, will now wait for the NCAA selection show that will take place on Wednesday, May 4, between 4:30 and 5 p.m. (CDT) on ESPNEWS. Individuals chosen for the singles and doubles championships will be announced on May 5 by 5 p.m. on the NCAA's Web site.
First- and second-round team competition takes place on May 13-15 at 16 campus sites that have yet to be determined. The 16 teams advancing past the first and second rounds travel to Athens, Ga., to finish the remainder of the tournament over May 19-22. The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships begin May 23 and conclude May 28.
