Dallas, Texas - TCU women's tennis player Story Tweedie-Yates was named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon. The senior earned the accolade after winning six matches last week to help the Horned Frogs improve to 10-1 this season. The honor is her second of the spring (Feb. 22, Mar. 15) and third overall this season, as she was also the November Player of the Month in the fall.
The Redmond, Wash., native won all three of her singles matches in straight sets last week. On March 9, No. 17 Tweedie-Yates topped Hala Sufi of Purdue, 6-3, 6-0, to help TCU win a tight 4-3 decision over the Boilermakers. A day later, the senior handled No. 99 Dora Vastag of Indiana, 6-1, 6-1, to lead the Frogs to a 5-2 win. On March 12 against Ohio State, Tweedie-Yates tallied her fourth straight win and 20th win overall with her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lindsey Adams.
In doubles, Tweedie-Yates and sophomore Ana Cetnik paired to post a perfect 3-0 record to improve to 9-1 this spring. The 52nd-ranked tandem topped No. 54 Lara Burgarello and Shawna Zuccarini of Purdue, 8-5. Against the Hoosiers, they were victorious over Sarah Batty and Dominika Walterova, 8-4. The pair rounded out the weekend by defeating Adams and Sonia Ruzimovsky of Ohio State, 8-3, to help the Frogs post a 5-2 win over the Buckeyes and improve to 5-0 on the road this season.
Including Tweedie-Yates, three TCU players have been honored by Conference USA this season. Junior Helena Besovic was the October Player of the Month, while freshman Andrea Morgado was the Player of the Week on Feb. 15.
The No. 21 Horned Frogs return to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Friday for a match against No. 62 Iowa. It is slated to begin at 12 p.m. on the Bernard J. "Tut" Bartzen Varsity Courts.
