FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's basketball team has earned a spot in the 2005 National Invitation Tournament, it was announced on Sunday night. The Horned Frogs (19-13) will play the Miami RedHawks (19-10) on Wednesday in Oxford, Ohio. It is the first time the Frog program has advanced to a postseason tournament since 1999.
This will be the sixth NIT appearance for TCU, who has reached the second round of the tourney in all five previous trips. All time, the Horned Frogs own a 7-5 record (.583) in the NIT. TCU has reached the quarterfinals of the tourney twice, in 1983 and 1999. In 1999, the Frogs defeated Kansas State and Nebraska prior to falling to Oregon just one game prior to reaching the NIT semifinals in New York City.
Of the 15 players on TCU's roster, only Nile Murry has appeared in postseason play. The junior guard saw action in both the 2002 and 2003 National Invitation Tournaments while playing for Temple. TCU is just one victory away from its first 20-win season since the 2000-01 campaign (20-11).
