Fort Worth, Texas - Senior Story Tweedie-Yates was named the C-USA Player of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon. The honor is the fourth of the year for a TCU player and the second straight for the Frogs as freshman Andrea Morgado earned the accolade last week.
Tweedie-Yates earned the award after winning four matches, including three over ranked opponents, last week to help the Horned Frogs improve to a perfect 6-0 this season.
In singles competition, the Redmond, Wash., native opened the week by making quick work of No. 47 Helga Vieira of Texas A&M, 6-3, 6-1, to help TCU defeat their in-state rivals, 5-2. On Feb. 19, the senior improved to 5-1 this spring with her 6-0, 7-5 victory over No. 90 Svetlana Kouzmenko of SMU. Of her five singles victories, all have come in straight sets.
In doubles action, unranked Tweedie-Yates and sophomore Ana Cetnik kept their record perfect with a pair of wins. The duo began the week with an easy 8-3 victory over No. 28 Anna Lubinsky and Vieira of A&M. Two days later, the tandem picked up their sixth win of the season with an 8-4 win over Kouzmenko and Lynsie Jones to lead the Frogs to the 6-1 romping of their Metroplex rivals.
In the ITA rankings that were announced on Feb. 22, the Frogs as a team held steady at 14th. In singles, Tweedie-Yates jumped four spots to 10th in the country, while junior Helena Besovic came in at 46th. Meanwhile in doubles, Cetnik and Tweedie-Yates made their debut in the rankings coming in at 27th.
The Frogs will return to the courts on Sunday at Tulsa in an 11 a.m. match.
