
Phillips named to Freshman All-America team

CHICAGO -- TCU linebacker Jason Phillips has been selected as a second-team Freshman All-American by CollegeFootballNews.com.Earlier this week, Phillips was named second-team All-Mountain West Conference. He became the first freshman defensive player in league history to be named first or second-team All-MWC.
A native of Waller, Texas, Phillips has started all 11 games while tying for the TCU lead with 63 tackles. He places fourth on the Horned Frogs with 7.5 stops for a loss, including a tackle behind the line of scrimmage in eight contests.
Phillips totaled a season-best 10 stops, including eight solo, in a win over New Mexico and posted nine tackles in the nationally-televised victory versus Utah to snap the Utes' 18-game winning streak. In his first collegiate game, Phillips had a tackle for a 5-yard loss in a win at Oklahoma.
The Mountain West Conference champion and 14th-ranked Frogs face Iowa State Dec. 31 in the EV1.net Houston Bowl.
