AUSTIN, Texas - The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed their fall slates on Saturday evening at the University of Texas Invitational. The TCU women placed 11th out of 14 teams, while the men were 13th of 15 squads at the prestigious event.
TCU's best individual swimming performance of the three-day meet came in the men's 200-yard backstroke, as Guillermo Ramirez posted his second NCAA "B" qualifying time in as many days. Ramirez (1:47.66) placed seventh in the race after a 15th-place finish in the 100 back on Friday.
Another outstanding performance for the Frogs came on the men's platform, as R.J. Hesselberg (282.60) narrowly missed grabbing the individual title. The true freshman finished just .25 points behind champion Sam Helvie of California. It was the best finish by a TCU diver over the weekend.
Jonathon Berrettini continued his strong performance at the UT Invite by placing 20th in the 200 back with a time of 1:50.49. In the 1650-yard freestyle, Alejandro Gomez landed in 21st among 40 participants in a time of 15:56.31. Allan McCallum also had a 21st-place showing with a 2:06.83 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
On the women's side, three Horned Frogs placed among the top-20 in the distance freestyle. Keilah Walker took 17th (17:25.10), while Sarah Bardwell (17:37.00) and Cheryl Townsend (17:41.48) grabbed the next two spots.
In addition, Erica Tate nabbed a share of 20th position in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.45. Teammate Rikki Covey placed 22nd in the 200-yard backstroke after a 2:04.63 clocking in the finals.
The Frogs have completed their fall semester and will not compete again until early January.
