FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's basketball team opens the 2005-06 season Sunday with an exhibition contest versus NCAA Division II power Missouri Western at 2 p.m. CST in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The contest will not be broadcast on the radio, however, live stats will be available via Gametracker on www.gofrogs.com. Admission to the game is free. The Lady Frogs return 11 players from their 14-person roster last season. TCU finished with a 23-10 record and made its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship. The Purple and White also snagged its third conference tournament title in five years.
Sunday's exhibition game marks the first competitive basketball contest for Adrianne Ross and Marissa Rivera since suffering torn ACLs a year ago. Rivera went down in the second half of TCU's first exhibition last season, while Ross's occurred in the first couple minutes of the Georgia game in Honolulu. Both are expected to have a strong impact for the Lady Frogs this season.
TCU is entering its first season with the Mountain West Conference in 2005-06. The preseason coaches' poll released in mid-October picked the Lady Frogs third behind Utah and New Mexico. Both schools tied for the regular-season title last year, with UNM winning the conference tournament.
Missouri Western, which is the alma mater for TCU head coach Jeff Mittie, went 20-9 last season. Mittie graduated in 1989 with a degree in sports management. He played on the men's team for four years and was later an assistant coach for the women's program before taking over the reigns for the 1992-93 season. Mittie went 76-17 (.817) with the Griffons during his three-year stint and made one Final Four appearance in 1995.
The Lady Frogs' final exhibition contest is set for Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. versus Everyones Internet. Regular-season play starts Nov. 18 with a home tilt against Long Beach State at 7 p.m.
