
TCU swimming and diving teams post Friday night victories

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams cruised to victories on Friday night in a quadrangular meet, as the Horned Frogs hosted Centenary, McMurry and Texas-Permian Basin at the University Recreation Center. The TCU women defeated Centenary 51-40, McMurry 55-30 and UTPB 55-36. Meanwhile, the men downed Centenary 67-22, McMurry 54-39 and UTPB 58-35.
A number of young Horned Frogs took the opportunity to shine. Freshman Cheryl Townsend won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.28, nipping fellow rookie Sarah Bardwell (1:58.80) at the wall. TCU freshmen also went 1-2 in the women's 1-meter diving. Lydia Rosenblatt claimed victory with a score of 217.20, while Hannah Hale took runner-up honors (206.70).
Kelly Wannemacher was a two-time winner, as she placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.82) and the 100-free (54.24). Other TCU individual winners included: Karen Sandifer in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.13), Christi Cannon in the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.09) and Jennifer Antisdale in the 100-yard backstroke (101.75).
On the men's side, freshman R.J. Hesselberg dominated the competition on the 1-meter board with a 278.40 for his first collegiate victory. The other male winners for TCU were: Alejandro Gomez in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.72), Guillermo Ramirez in the 200-yard individual medley (1:57.42), Jonathon Berrettini in the 50-yard freestyle (21.66), Yousif Del Valle in the 100-yard butterfly (52.42), Cameron Allred in the 100-yard backstroke (54.98) and Teylor Arboleda in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.45).
The men's and women's teams are in action tomorrow at noon at the Rec Center hosting a Mountain West Conference contest versus Wyoming. The TCU women are 2-1 against MWC competition, while the men are 0-2 this season.
