TCU Men's Basketball nabs two in early signing period

FORT WORTH, Texas - Two high school players from the state of Texas have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the TCU men's basketball team in the 2006-07 academic year, as announced by head coach Neil Dougherty today. Local native Lucas Tauscher and Jason Ebie, who hails from Houston, Texas, will join a Horned Frog lineup already ladened with talent from the Lone Star State.
Tauscher (Fort Worth, Texas/Southwest High School) is the second player from Fort Worth to sign with TCU out of high school in recent years, joining current sophomore guard Brent Hackett and former Frog player Juan Bragg (1994). In addition, Tauscher is the fourth Fort Worthian to choose to play for his hometown college team. Redshirt sophomore Kevin Langford, who played one sesaon at the University of California at Berkley, returned to his roots this year for the opportunity to play for Dougherty in 2006-07.
At 6-foot-10 and 220 pounds, Tauscher is one of the best shot blockers in Texas and was listed 22nd by Mike Kunstadt's TexasHoops.com preseason rankings as one of the top rising seniors in the state. He has developed into an intimidating presence over the years, handling and shooting the ball extremely well. Tauscher had committed verbally to TCU back when he was a freshman at Southwest High School, but made it official when he signed on the dotted line in the first day of the early signing period.
The Horned Frogs also signed a top-notch player in Ebie (Houston, Texas/Alief Elsik H.S.). An athletic 6-foot-1 player, he will bring more depth to the backcourt very quickly. He has the ability to put the pressure on and has very explosive hops, at times above the rim.
This past summer, Ebie played at the Las Vegas Classic where he made the College Basketball News' All-Tournament team. He tallied 26 points for his team, the D-1 Ambasssadors, in a 90-72 win over the Chi-Town Mixers and helped lead the squad to the tournament quarterfinals where he picked up another 15 points.
"I'm happy to have both players commit to TCU men's basketball," coach Dougherty said. "We've improved in recruiting over the past couple of years and I think we did it again. Jason and Luke will be welcoming additions to the Horned Frogs."
