Junior Anna Vaughn etched her name in the TCU records books as she killed her 1,000th ball on Oct. 22 versus UT-Pan Am, making her only the fourth player to eclipse the 1,000 mark and freshman Nirelle Hampton recorded her 1,000th career assist on Oct. 29 versus Utah, as she became only the fourth player to reach the mark.
Vaughn, a 6-0 middle-blocker from Grapevine, Texas, leads the Frogs in kills this season with 363. The junior had her best match of the season on Sept. 3, when she recorded 23 kills while hitting .447 in the Frogs 3-1 defeat of UMBC at the George Mason Tournament in Fairfax, Va.
Adding more accolades to her already decorated resume, Vaughn has collected all-tournament honors in all four tournaments TCU has competed in this season. She has five 20+ kills performances during the 2005 campaign and leads the Mountain West Conference in the respective category.
In her two and a half year stint as a Horned Frog, Vaughn has captured Conference USA all-conference accolades in her first two seasons, a C-USA Player of the Week award (10/11/04) and has been recognized a Conference USA Commissioners Honor Roll recipient.
Hampton has been an integral part of helping Vaughn reach the 1,000 kills and in the process, the Gainesville, Fla., product has tallied her 1,000th career assist. Hampton's best match of the season came on Oct. 7 when she posted 41 assists, 15 digs and 11 kills en route to her first career triple-double. The triple-double is only the second in TCU history and still stands as the only one recorded by a Mountain West Conference player this season. For her efforts, she garnered MWC Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 10.
The freshman setter is second on the team in service aces and fourth in digs.
Both players look to add to their numbers and help the Frogs finish the 2005 regular season strong this weekend as the team heads to Albuquerque, N.M. to take on New Mexico and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Both matches are slated for a 7 p.m. (MDT).
