Assistant Coach Michelle Royal will answer your questions.
TCU Moderator: Hi fans, welcome to this week's installment of chatting with the TCU soccer folks. We will begin taking your questions shortly.
Heather: How do you like coaching with Dan Abdalla?
| Michelle Royal: I think that he brings a great mentality to coaching. He's very demanding of the girls and expects the best at all times.
From my perspective, he always has a lot of energy and it gives me a lot of energy in turn. He has a wealth of soccer knowledge and I have learned a lot from him in the short time that we have worked together. |
Andrea: Did you feel torn when the Frogs played A&M earlier this season?
Michelle Royal: In a way, yes, because I am always happy when my alma mater wins. But at the same time, I hate to lose and want success from the team that I am coaching, which is the Frogs.
Lauren: When you are recruiting, what kinds of things do you look for from athletes?
Michelle Royal: I am always looking for players who can read the game and are willing to fight to win. It depends on what position we are trying to fill, but overall, we want athletes that are going to be strong in the air, on the ground and mentally.
Brittney: What do you suggest soccer players do while in high school to make them look attractive to college recruiters?
Michelle Royal: It is important to stay fit. You have breaks where it can be easy, if you are not playing, to get unfit, which can hurt you once you begin playing again. It's a lot more attractive to a college coach to watch an athlete that can play the whole time they are in, instead of standing around with your hands on your knees.
Ace (Las Vegas): What do you think your odds are going into the conference tournament next week?
Michelle Royal: I'm not sure about the odds. I don't feel that we have played our best soccer in the conference so far. We have an opportunity to put ourselves into postseason play with this tournament and the girls are excited about the opportunity. Hopefully, we will shock a few teams next week.
Eddie (Seattle): What's the team's favorite song?
Michelle Royal: I couldn't tell you if they have one favorite song, but each individual player has their own favorite song, which they put on our warm-up CD that we play at home games.
Casey (Plano): How do you think your playing career has helped you as a coach?
Michelle Royal: I played midfield at Texas A&M, so I definitely feel that I can help the midfielders when I am coaching from the sidelines because I understand the position. It has helped me relate with the girls on a different level, having been where they are now. I went through the different ups and downs, so I feel that I can help the players out when they are having hard times or good times.
Arnold (Hollywood): Is there any chance of having any of your games broadcast next year?
Michelle Royal: We did five games this season and are planning on doing more next year. We have had a positive response from our fan base and hope to keep the excitement of TCU soccer growing.
Erin (Denver): What does your volunteer assistant, Jay Fitzgerald, bring to the team.
Michelle Royal: As a goalkeeper coach, he has been very beneficial for us. He has a lot of knowledge about the game and is an excellent coach. He brings national experience to the team, which gives him a lot of credibility.
Don (Dallas): Why should someone choose TCU over another school?
Michelle Royal: TCU is a private school, so you have the advantage of small class sizes and a more individualized education. Fort Worth is a great location with lots of things to do socially. it is a great college environment in a big city.
Ashley (Fort Worth): What has been your best memory of this season?
Michelle Royal: Beating Boise State in overtime early in the season. We scored 16 seconds into OT and it was a very exciting goal. It was a sweet victory because we had dominated the game from start to finish.
Heather (Miami): Were is the neatest place you have been to?
Michelle Royal: I would say that I really enjoyed our trip to Utah. However, I am really looking forward to our trip to Las Vegas next week.
TCU Moderator: Alright folks, that's all the time we have this week. Join us next week when Coach Dan Abdalla chats with us from Las Vegas.
