FORT WORTH, Texas -- After shattering school records and taking first place at the UT-Pan Am tournament on Saturday, the TCU volleyball team returns home to take on Colorado State at the University Rec Center.
Sophomore Talaya Whitfield set a new career-high and TCU single match record for digs with 35 in TCU's 3-1 victory over UT-Pan Am. The 35 digs also tied the Mountain West Conference record.
The Frogs victory over UT-Pan Am was sparked by one of the most balanced performances the team has displayed this season as three players recorded double-digit kills. Senior Hayley Harmon (10), junior Anna Vaughn (20) and sophomore LeMeita Smith (11) all reached the double-digit plateau.
Whitfield's dig record was not the only record rewritten on Saturday. As a squad, the Frogs posted 19.0 total blocks surpassing the previous mark of 16.0 set Nov. 7, 2000 versus Sam Houston State.
Colorado State is a strong defensive team as they lead the league in blocks per game (3.53) and senior Dre Downs leads the league with 1.57 per game.
The Rams currently sit at second in the MWC with a record of 5-2. The Frogs are seventh with a 2-5 mark. Match time for the Tuesday conference showdown is slated for 7 p.m.
