TCU women's golf heads to South Carolina

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's golf team, fresh off its 21-stroke victory earlier this week at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan., is competing this weekend at the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C.The tournament will be held at Furman University's par 72, 6,103-yard course. Play began at 8:30 a.m. today and will continue at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow and 9 a.m. Sunday.
TCU's three-day score of 869 (+5) at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational shattered the previous 54-hole school record of 887, set in 2002 (Oct. 25-27) at the Lady Paladin Invitational. After tying a TCU single-round record with a 287 in the first round of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, the Frogs set a new school mark later that day with their 283 total in the second round.
"We had great team chemistry and a great week of practice," TCU coach Angie Larkin said. "I was proud of the girls for just playing good, solid golf.
"They were having fun and enjoying the game. They let their talent work for them and we hope to continue to do that this weekend. We want to build on this momentum and keep our confidence on the rise."
The 17-team Lady Paladin Invitational field includes Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Florida International, Furman, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Northwestern, South Florida, TCU, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington and Winthrop.
Eleven teams are ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 100, including No. 68 TCU. The Frogs have had three medalists at past Lady Paladin Invitationals.
TCU will be represented this weekend by Stacey Bieber, Camille Blackerby, Elin Emanuelsson, Catherine Matranga and Carrie Morris.
Past individual winners of this tournament, which began in 1972 as the Carolinas Collegiate, include Betsy King, Nancy Lopez, Dottie Pepper, Donna Andrews, Angela Stanford and Meredith Duncan.
At 6,103 yards, the setup of the Furman Golf Course is 218 yards longer than it has been for past Lady Paladin Invitationals.
