| TCU forward, Angie Nickens answers questions about the soccer program. |
| TCU Moderator: Welcome everybody, we have TCU junior, Angie Nickens with us tonight to answer questions about the soccer. She has two goals this season and was named one of the team's captains for 2005. |
| Layla (Colorado Springs): How has the chemistry of the team progressed as the season has gone along? |
| Angie Nickens: It has gotten a lot better. We have spent a lot of time together which help us on the field with our communications.
This past weekend in Utah really helped us get to know each other a lot better. We got a lot more comfortable with each other. It was good for us. |
| Cindy (Plano): How did the offseason fitness program help in the altitude? |
| Angie Nickens: We weren't affected by the altitude. I think that all of our offseason and on going preparations for matches has really benefitted us come game time. We find that we are really competiting with teams at the end of the game. |
| Rachel (Ft. Worth): What things do you like to do in your free time? |
| Angie Nickens: I like to dance. Any free time I get, I go and take hip-hop dance classes. This is something that I have been doing since high school and it's a great stress reliever for me.
I also enjoy reading leisurely and hanging out with my friends and teammates. |
| Dan Meyer (Fort Worth): What's been the highlight of the season so far and what are you guys looking forward to for the remainder of the year? |
| Angie Nickens: The Boise State overtime win was a lot of fun. It was frustrating to hit the post as many times as we did which made getting the goal the first 16 seconds of overtime that much more satisfying. Everyone played with so much heart, that it was so exciting to win a game like that.
We are looking forward to traveling to different places and playing teams that we haven't played in our careers. |
| Red (Richardson): What's the biggest difference between HS and College soccer? What can I do to prepare for playing in college? |
| Angie Nickens: The speed of the game is a lot quicker and the players are a lot more phyiscal. I would recommend focusing on endurance training and improving muscular strength. |
| Jessica (Denton): What Mountain West location are you most looking forward to visiting? |
| Angie Nickens: I am really excited that the conference tournament is in Las Vegas, but at the same time, we will need to be focused and not distracted by all of the pretty lights. We are also excited about going to Colorado next weekend. The scenery in this conference is unbelievable. I am also excited about going to San Diego next season. |
| Frog Fan (Fort Worth): Did Coach Patterson ever try to get you or any of your teammates to kick for the Football team? Just kidding...but have you ever tried kicking football field goals? If so, from how far out can you make one? |
| Angie Nickens: Sometimes we joke with K.D. Waters (freshman defender) about trying out for the football team. She has a powerful leg.
I myself have never attempted kicking a field goal. |
| Soccer Dad (Dallas): Why did you decide to stay locally to play soccer at TCU? What can be done to keep all the great players close to home to play? |
| Angie Nickens: I really liked the campus. I thought it was beautiful here. I enjoyed my recruiting trip. It also helps that both of my parents are alums. So, basically, I bleed purple.
I think that the school has a lot to offer, both academically and athletically. The program and the school should be enough to attract players. |
| Soccer Dad (Dallas): Thanks, Angie. Tell us about the head coach and what he's like to play for. |
| Angie Nickens: Coach Abdalla is intense, but it shows that he has a lot of passion for the game and wants us to do the best we can. He is a very hands-on coach that cares about not only what we do on the field, but what we do in the community as TCU representatives as well as the classroom. |
| TCU Moderator: That's all we have time for. Join us again next week. Thanks for all the questions. Please come out to see our final two home games this weekend. Friday we play UNLV at 4:00 and San Diego State on Sunday at 1:00. |
