News & Notes:
Picking Up Where She Left Off
• After recording four game-winners a season ago, senior Amy Van Zandt picked up where she left off, recording the game-winner against Texas Tech . She got the ball at midfield and took it down the field, beating the goalkeeper for the Frog's first goal of the season. The goal was the eighth in her TCU career.
It's Good
•For the first time in over two years, the Frogs earned a penalty kick. Tech player Jennifer Vasquez hauled Van Zandt down in the penalty box, setting up the PK. Van Zandt buried it low to the right of the goalkeeper for her second goal of the game. Jenny Swanson was the last Frog to attempt a PK. She was successful in her attempt on October 17, 2001 against Southwest Texas State.
Great Debut
•Ashley Pierret made her debut in goal for the Frogs against Texas Tech. Pierret was a tough customer between the posts as she kept the Red Raiders scoreless. She face 12 shots and made two saves. She left the game with eight minutes to go after suffering a minor injury making a save. Katy Buchanan made the only save she had to to preserve the shutout for Pierret.
Frogs vs. Oklahoma
•This will be the eighth meeting between the Frogs and the Sooners. OU holds a 4-2-1 advantage over TCU. The squads played to a 1-1 tie last season in Ft. Worth, but prior to that OU had won the last three meetings. TCU has yet to record a victory in Norman in three tries. The lone victories came in the 1997 season and the 1999 season.
Scouting The Sooners
• The Sooners are coming off back-to-back ties with some quality opponents. Oklahoma battled to a 1-1 tie with C-USA member Saint Louis. On Sunday, the Sooners came away with a 2-2 tie against a tough SMU squad. Three different Sooners recorded a goal, while Shana All tallied a team-high two assists over the weekend. OU has a tandem of goalkeepers in Catherine Wade and Jennifer Nichols. Nichols has seen the most time with 130:00 minutes in goal.
Frogs vs. Jacksonville State
• The Frogs and the Gamecocks have met only one time in the programs history. The Frogs won the lone meeting in high-scoring fashion as they topped the Gamecocks 6-0 in Fort Worth. The game was played in 1997.
Scouting The Gamecocks
• Jacksonville State struggled in their opener against C-USA opponent, UAB. The Blazers handed the Gamecocks a 6-2 drubbing. They rebounded on Sunday to take a 1-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State. After giving up six goals on Friday, Elizabeth Selasky bounced back to picked up the shutout, making two saves. Freshman Courtney Moore scored a pair of goals over the weekend.
