CONFERENCE OPENER ON TAP: The TCU Horned Frogs (2-1, 0-0 C-USA) open their fourth and final league schedule in Conference USA when they host the USF Bulls (1-1, 0-0 C-USA) at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth on Saturday, September 25. Game time is set for 6:05 p.m. The Frogs completed the non-conference portion of the season with a 2-1 record, defeating Northwestern, 48-45 in double overtime in the season opener in a nationally-televised ESPN2 game, then blanking SMU, 44-0, before falling to Texas Tech in Lubbock by a 70-35 count last Saturday. Next season TCU will become the ninth member of the Mountain West Conference. The USF Bulls had their scheduled lidlifter with Pitt postponed, then opened with a 21-7 win over Tennessee Tech before dropping a 34-3 decision to South Carolina last week.
A LITTLE HISTORY: The Frogs own an all-time record of 513-496-57. TCU has fielded a team every year since 1896, with the exception of the 1900 campaign. With a 39-13 record over the last four-plus seasons (2000-04), the Frogs have begun the 21st century in much better fashion than they began the 20th century, when they were 2-18-3 from 1900-1904. In fact, it took the Frogs 10 years (1896-1905) to record 11 victories - they logged 11 wins in 2003 alone!
TCU-USF...THE SERIES: The TCU-USF series is a short one. The Frogs went into Tampa's Raymond James Stadium a year ago and ended the nation's second-longest home winning streak at 21 games with a 13-10 victory over USF in a defensive struggle. The Frogs finished the game with 10 sacks, a record for a USF opponent. The lone TCU touchdown came in the first quarter on a 43-yard completion from Tye Gunn to Cory Rodgers. All-American placekicker Nick Browne converted two field goals, including a 37-yarder as time expired in the first half to give the Frogs a 10-3 halftime advantage. TCU outgained the Bulls by a 233 to 126 margin in the contest.
TCU IN CONFERENCE USA ACTION: The Frogs have increased their number of league wins every year since joining Conference USA. In 2001, the Frogs went 4-3 in league play to tie for fifth place. In 2002, TCU tied for the conference title with a 6-2 record. Last season the Frogs finished second in the league despite posting a 7-1 record. Overall, TCU has a 17-6 record in C-USA play.
