The TCU men's and women's cross country teams get their fall season underway Saturday, September 11, when they travel to Denton to take part in the 27th annual North Texas Mean Green Opener. The meet will be held at the Eagle Point Campus, with the men's 8K getting started at 9:00 a.m., followed by the women at 9:30 a.m. for a 5K race.
"We will have most of our top runners ready to go on Saturday," said first year coach Patrick Cunniff. "We are excited to start the season and find out where we are at. However, we are not putting a lot of pressure on this meet. We understand it's just the first step in the process. We are focused on running our best at the Conference USA Championships and the Regional meet at the end of the season," noted Cunniff. Other teams slated to be in the field for the UNT Opener include Baylor, Oklahoma, SMU (women), UT-Arlington and the host school, North Texas.
The Frogs will be represented by Halie Bullin, Katie Cosgrove, Elese Dawson, McKale Davis, Mary Kinyanjui, Pattie Parker, Calandra Stewart and Katrina Zielinski on the women's side and by Houston Bolin, Jonathan Bundren, Cody Cook, David Harris, Steven Lenney, Matt Manly, Brett McKnight, J.T. Reinert, Steven Salazzo and Josh Sharon on the men's side.
"I would look for Mary Kinyanjui to lead our women's squad again this season," said Cunniff. "She is the defending Conference USA and South Central Regional champion and has been running well in practice. Freshman Matt Manly has looked good for the men and I expect him to be our top finisher in the 8K race."
The Frogs' top distance runner over the past two seasons, Jackson Langat, will redshirt the 2004 cross country season.
