Wheat Joins TCU Sports Medicine Staff

Longtime Texas Rangers' trainer Danny Wheat has been hired as an assistant athletic trainer at TCU. Wheat will be responsible for athletic injury recognition and care, treatment and rehabilitation for the Horned Frogs' baseball team. Wheat worked in the Rangers' organization from 1976 to 2002, including the final 11 years as the head athletic trainer at the major league level. A 1975 graduate of the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, Wheat began his career as the Double-A level in the Texas League with San Antonio and Tulsa. He spent from 1978 to 1984 as the Rangers' Triple-A trainer, making stops in Tucson, Charleston, Wichita, Denver and Oklahoma City. He was promoted to the big league club in 1985 as the assistant athletic trainer and was named head athletic trainer for the Rangers in 1992. Wheat joined the Ben Hogan Sports Therapy Institute in 2003 and served as the trainer for both the Fort Worth Cats baseball team and the Fort Worth Brahmas hockey team. He also was the athletic trainer for Team USA in the 2003 International World Cup of Baseball, which competed in Havana, Cuba last October. TCU also announced that Jeff Crane has been promoted to Director of Marketing for TCU Athletics. His responsibilities include marketing all of TCU sports, marketing elements related to gofrogs.com, the branding of TCU Athletics and the licensing of athletics logos and marks. Crane, a 1998 TCU graduate with a degree in marketing, has served as an assistant director of sports marketing at his alma mater for the past four years. Previously he logged stints with the TCU Alumni Relations office and with The Forbes Group, a local marketing agency.
