ABOUT THE GAME
After grinding out a 65-60 victory against the UCLA Bruins Friday in Coral Gables, Fla., the TCU Lady Frogs will face Miami Jam tournament host Miami Sunday in the championship game at 1 p.m. CST. The Hurricanes trailed at the half of their game with Gardner-Webb by four, 26-30, but rallied in the second period and outscored the Bulldogs 39-17 to win easily, 65-47. Sunday's contest marks the first meeting between the Lady Frogs and Hurricanes.
TCU'S LAST TIME OUT
The TCU Lady Frogs overcame 30 turnovers to defeat the UCLA Bruins, 65-60, in Coral Gables, Fla., to open the 2004-05 regular season. Sophomore Ashley Davis led all scorers with a career-high tying 17 points. She knocked down all but one of her six three-point attempts. She also collected 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. Sophomore Natasha Lacy racked up a dozen, all in the second half, and contributed five assists and five steals as well. Senior Sandora Irvin had 13 rebounds, but with only eight points her double-double streak ended at 15. Redshirt freshman JimAnne Baker tallied 11 points and made three treys off the bench. TCU's three-point shooting was the difference in the game, as it connected on 11-of-21 (.524). The Bruins were a mere 5-for-19 (.263). The Lady Frogs held a huge rebounding edge, 51-35, and had six more offensive boards. TCU ended the game shooting 36.7 percent (22-60), while UCLA made 33.3 percent (21-63).
MIAMI'S LAST TIME OUT
Although Miami defeated Gardner-Webb by 18 (65-47) on its home floor, the Hurricanes fell behind early in the first half. The Bulldogs scored the first 11 points of the contest in less than three minutes and led by as many as 15 at one point. Miami outscored Gardner-Webb 22-11 after that point to trail by only four at the intermission. The Hurricanes took the lead with 10:57 remaining in the game and never relinquished it. Miami went on a 25-7 run in the final 10 minutes of the game. Tamara James led the way for the Canes with 19 points on 7-of-19 shooting. She also snagged eight rebounds. Yalonda McCormick was Miami's only other double digit scorer with 10. Albrey Grimsley turned in a solid performance as well with nine points and nine boards.
