FORT WORTH, Texas - The Horned Frogs sit a solid fifth in league standings and will host a pair of struggling conference teams in USF (tied for eighth) and UAB (tied for last) this weekend for TCU's last C-USA home matches. Saturday's UAB match will be TCU's "Dig for the Cure" in honor of October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
North Texas had a rocky start to its year, going 1-for-10 in the preseason. Conference season hasn't been much easier on the Mean Green, as the team has gone 3-for-7 against Sun Belt opponents. Most recently, North Texas endured four matches without winning a single game. Junior middle blocker Brittany Gregory leads the team offensivley with 230 kills (3.24 kpg) and a .239 hitting average. She also leads with 44 blocks while freshman libero Jessica Hulsebosch provides the most backrow defense for the Mean Green dwith 279 digs (3.93 dpg).
USF represents the next Conference USA foe the Frogs will face. With a 6-13 overall record and a share of eighth place in the league (3-4), the Bulls have recently scored wins over UAB and DePaul. USF swept DePaul in their meeting Oct. 16 while the Frogs lost to the Blue Demons in five last Friday. Junior Flavia Silveira, a junior college transfer, leads the team in kills (277, 4.40 kpg) and is a narrow second in digs (197) to sophomore defensive specialist Ashley Reavis with 199 (3.06 dpg).
UAB has had one of the most unfortunate seasons of all the C-USA teams, holding a 1-18 overall record and a winless 0-7 mark in conference play. USF most recently took advantage of the downtrodden Blazers. Not a single Blazer owns an attack percentage higher than .150. Isabel Oquendo has tallied the most kills with 157 (2.62 kpg) and Cassi Ociesa has 74 blocks for the Blazers while Brianna Galvin has 249 digs.
Both matches can be followed on gofrogs.com via Gametracker. Friday night's match can be heard on KTCU 88.7 FM locally and www.ktcu.tcu.edu worldwide.
