FORT WORTH, Texas - Anna Vaughn earned Conference USA's volleyball Player of the Week award on the strength of her outstanding weekend performance on the road against Charlotte and East Carolina. This is the sophomore's first-ever player of the week mention, and TCU's fifth in history and third in a row.
Vaughn, a native of Grapevine, Texas, hit at an astounding .480 percentage for the weekend in TCU's road wins. The sophomore had 18 kills against the Charlotte 49ers with a .500 average and tallied a match- and career-high 25 kills and .467 average versus the East Carolina Pirates.
"This is a great honor for Anna Vaughn," Head Coach Prentice Lewis commented. "She definitely earned it, having scored the most points on the weekend by far. Anna's progress has been made in tremendous strides: from last pre-season's all-tournament team in Pittsburgh, to her spot on the 2003 All-Freshman squad, to this year's player of the week title. We are so proud of her."
Last year, then first-year player Vaughn earned a spot on the All-Conference USA Freshman Team with an attack percentage that ranked her as high as ninth in the nation.
Previously this season, seniors Ellen Rehme and Dominika Szabo earned Player of the Week nods while junior Erin Ludeke joined Szabo last week for a sweep of the awards when she grabbed the Setter of the Week title.
Vaughn shares this week's title with Saint Louis middle blocker Aida Antanaviciute.
