Patton Takes Silver Medal at World Championships

Former TCU track standout Darvis Patton captured the silver medal in the 200 meter dash at the World Championships, held in Paris, France.
Patton finished just one one-hundredth of a second behind U.S. teammate John Capel, who won the race in 20.30 seconds. It was the first time since 1983 that Americans took gold and silver in the men's 200 at the world meet.
Patton was one of the most decorated athletes in TCU history, despite spending just two years on campus. He garnered seven all-America certificates during his senior year alone, and notched 10 all-America honors in two campaigns at TCU.
As a senior, the Lake Highlands product earned all-America honors in the indoor 60 and 200 meters, along with the long jump, then was a four-time outdoor all-American, finishing among the nation's elite in the 100, 200, long jump and as the third leg on TCU's national champion 4x100 meter relay team.
Patton is the second former Flyin' Frog to earn distinction in the 2003 World Championships. His former TCU teammate, Kim Collins, was the gold medal winner in the 100 meter dash earlier in the week.
