CHICAGO - For the second time this season and third time in his career, TCU junior Clayton Jerome (Mesquite, Texas/Poteet) has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. Jerome shares this week's honor with Zachary Treadway of Charlotte.
Jerome was recognized for hurling seven scoreless innings in the Horned Frogs' 13-3 win at Saint Louis on Saturday. The right-hander allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out a season-high nine. He carried a perfect game into the fifth inning of the contest after retiring the first 12 Billikens he faced. With the victory, Jerome raised his season record to a team-best 4-1.
He also earned C-USA accolades this season for tossing a complete-game gem to help TCU snap a 10-game losing streak to nationally ranked Texas Tech on Feb. 22. Last season, Jerome was named Pitcher of the Week for striking out a career-high 10 in a complete-game victory on April 12, also against SLU.
Jerome and the Frogs return to action Tuesday when they begin a five-game homestand with a 6:30 p.m. showdown versus Oklahoma. This weekend, first-place TCU (16-11, 5-1 C-USA) hosts Houston for a critical three-game C-USA series before closing out the homestand on Tuesday, April 1 against Southwest Texas. All five games will take place at TCU's Lupton Stadium and Williams-Reilly Field.
