ST. LOUIS - TCU baseball erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning and cruised to a 13-3 victory over Saint Louis Sunday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center. The win completed the Horned Frogs' three-game weekend sweep of the Billikens.
After posting a single run in the first inning, TCU (16-11, 5-1 C-USA) added two more on a two-run homer by first baseman Chris Neuman to take a 3-0 lead. The home run was Neuman's fourth of the weekend and raised his Conference USA-leading total to nine.
The Horned Frogs benefited from an error by SLU second baseman Jake Friederich to lead off the seven-run fifth. From there, TCU banged out five hits and sent 10 batters to the plate in the frame to extend its lead to 10-1. The onslaught was capped by a three-run home run off the bat of designated hitter Ryan Weems, the first long ball of his career.
Neuman struck again with a two-run single in the sixth, punctuating a three-run frame and giving the Frogs a 13-1 advantage.
Saint Louis (5-10, 0-6 C-USA) was able to plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough as the game was called after the stanza due to C-USA's Sunday ten-run rule.
In all, five Horned Frogs enjoyed multi-hit games, led by 3-for-3 efforts from both Neuman and Terry Trofholz. Neuman added four RBI and a pair of runs while Trofholz scored three times.
Chris Osentowski tossed six innings, allowing just five hits and an unearned run to up his season record to 4-2. The Frogs reached SLU starter Corey Lawson for 13 runs and 14 hits in 5.1 innings of work. The preseason all-C-USA selection fell to 1-3 on the season.
With the victory, the Frogs remain alone in second place in C-USA and have a chance to move into a tie for first depending on the outcome of Sunday's matchup between Louisville and first-place Southern Miss.
TCU returns to action Tuesday evening when it hosts Oklahoma in a non-conference battle to open a five-game homestand at Lupton Stadium and Williams-Reilly Field. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
