TCU Holds Football Scrimmage

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Michael DePriest highlighted the morning's scrimmage by hauling in four passes for 127 yards. He turned a 10-yard out into a 46-yard completion from Jeff Ballard, then later was on the receiving end of a 58-yard reception from Brandon Hasell.
"Right now, I'm still trying to learn the offense and do what I'm supposed to do," said DePriest. "The first thing I think about is catching the ball and tucking it in. It doesn't matter how many yards you get if you lose the ball. After that, I'm just trying to make a move to get some yards after the catch. In high school, a lot of my yards came after the catch."
Senior tailback Ricky Madison carried just twice on the day, but his second carry was a 50-yard burst off right tackle. Sophomore Lonta Hobbs rushed six times for 31 yards, including a 22-yard run on his first attempt, and redshirt freshman Robert Merrill rushed eight times for 21 yards. Junior quarterback Brandon Hassell completed 8-of-17 passes for 146 yards, while redshirt freshman Jeff Ballard completed 4-of-10 passes for 87 yards.
"The offense made some big plays and the defense came up with some big stops," said TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson. "Offensively, DePriest showed us some big play capabilities. I was happy with Ricky and Robert Merrill. Really, all of our tailbacks did a good job. Defensively, we gave up some big plays and we can't do that. We put an emphasis on the special teams in this scrimmage," continued Patterson. "It's the first time we've gone `live' in our special teams during spring practice."
The Frogs will take a couple days off before resuming spring drills on Tuesday.
