CHICAGO - On the strength of four doubles, two home runs and nine RBI in four games, TCU third baseman Mike Settle (Fort Worth, Texas/Country Day) has been named the Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The honor is the first of Settle's career and the first bestowed on a Horned Frog this season.
The senior had one of the best weeks at the plate in school history, leading the Horned Frogs to a 3-1 record. In four games, Settle tallied eight hits, including the four doubles and two home runs, and added seven runs scored to his nine RBI. For the week, he put together a .500 batting average, .556 on-base percentage and an astounding 1.125 slugging percentage.
After homering in TCU's 11-4 rout of Texas-Arlington, Settle heated up even more in the Bayou as the Frogs won two of three games at Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend.
In the Horned Frogs' series opening 15-3 win, Settle tied career highs with three hits, including a double and a home run, and five RBI.
The personal best for hits would only last one day, however, as Settle turned in a 4-for-4 effort, including a school record-tying three doubles, to lead the Frogs' to a 9-4 victory in the rubber game of the three-game series with the Lions on Sunday afternoon.
Settle had another double erased from the record books, as his two-bagger in Saturday's contest was wiped out when the game was called due to rain in the top of the second inning.
For the season, Settle leads TCU (6-2) in a majority of offensive categories, including batting average (.464), runs (11), hits (13), doubles (four), home runs (three), RBI (11), total bases (26), slugging percentage (.929) and on-base percentage (.500).
Settle and the Frogs look to break a nine-game losing streak to Texas Tech when they take on the Red Raiders four times this week. The first matchup between TCU and Tech is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday in Lubbock.
