Lamar was led in scoring by LaToya Carson with 16, while Audrea Samuel added 14. Samuel leads the team in scoring on the year with 11.1 points per game. Rashekii Howard is the Cardinal's other double digit scorer with an average of 10.3.
TCU'S LAST TIME OUT
The No. 22/19 TCU Lady Frogs concluded their trip to the West Coast with an 86-69 victory against Pepperdine to win the Malibu Beach Classic title Sunday night at Firestone Fieldhouse. TCU improved to 8-1 with the victory and the Waves dropped to 3-6 with the loss. TCU controlled the game from the opening tip, quickly going up 12-4 after a layup by Sandora Irvin. The lead hit double figures at the 11:03 mark of the first half when Amy Pack got an easy bucket after a feed from Adrianne Ross. The Waves were able to hack down the Purple and White's upper hand to nine with 6:48 to go, but TCU went on an 18-9 run to bring the stanza to a close. In the second half, TCU began to run and the score continued to grow in its favor. It became as much as 32 with 10:16 showing on the clock when Pack put the Lady Frogs up by a 69-37 count. Despite such a hefty lead, Pepperdine was able to cut down the disparity by applying a full-court press that forced TCU to commit numerous turnovers. The Purple and White had only nine with half of the second period gone but finished with 11 over the final 10 minutes. The Waves were able to get the difference in the score down to as little as 15 at 81-66, but there was only 1:23 remaining in the contest. The rest of the points that were scored in the game came on the charity stripe for both teams. Irvin was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after finishing the game with 16 points and a career-high 11 blocked shots. She was only two rebounds away from becoming the first Lady Frog in school history to notch a triple-double. The 11 blocks tied for the second-most in a single game in Conference USA history. Teammate Tiffany Evans holds the record with 12. Seven of Irvin's rejections came in the second half of play. Davis was also named to the all-tourney squad for TCU. She ended the game with 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and hit all three of her shots from downtown. Other significant contributors for TCU included Pack, who tallied 13 points in 13 minutes of play off the bench. Ebony Shaw added nine points and snagged seven rebounds, while Natasha Lacy scored six points and grabbed six rebounds. Niki Newton had eight points and two boards as well.
