
Browne Named Finalist For Socrates Award

TCU placekicker Nick Browne is one of eight finalists for the fifth annual Sporting News Radio Socrates Award. The Award is presented annually to the college athlete who best exemplifies excellence in athletics and academics.
Browne is a two-time first team Academic All-American , carrying a 3.97 GPA in the classroom while majoring in finance-real estate. On the field, he is a first team All-American placekicker, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America. He was also the 2003 Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year.
Previous winners of the Socrates Award include Purdue's Drew Brees in 2000, Ben Hamilton of Minnesota in 2001, Andre Davis of Virginia Tech in 2002 and Craig Krenzel of Ohio State University in 2003. They each exemplified the criteria of the Socrates Creed, which the Award embodies:
"Strong Mind in a Strong Body"
* A student-athlete who has shown himself or herself to be a leader and quality contributor in their sport(s)
* A student-athlete who has shown himself or herself to be an outstanding student academically
* A student-athlete who has shown himself or herself to be a quality citizen in their community
