TCU senior placekicker Nick Browne was named as second team All-American by The Sporting News, while tailback Robert Merrill was named to the second team Freshman All-America squad, the publication has announced.
Browne, who is also an Academic All-American, was named as Conference USA's Special Teams Player of the Year after breaking the league record for field goals in a season with a nation-leading 27. He leads C-USA in scoring with 115 points, just one shy of the league record. Browne was named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week a record five times this season and was honored as a first team All-American by the Football Writers Association.
Merrill became the second consecutive TCU freshman to run for more than 1,000 yards, following Lonta Hobbs last season. He ranked third among all Division I-A freshmen with 1,081 yards. Merrill, who was named second team All-Conference USA, posted five 100-yard games in helping the Horned Frogs to an 11-1 record, their highest win total since 1938. His 5.6 yards-per-carry average ranked second among C-USA's leading rushers and he scored four touchdowns.
