TCU defensive end Bo Schobel has been named to the Mid-Season All-America Team, as selected by Richard Cirminiello of CollegeFootballNews.com.
Schobel, a 6-5, 268-pound senior from Columbus, Texas, joined Georgia's David Pollack as the two defensive ends on the first team squad. Cirminiello had this to say about Schobel: "Schobel is the best player on one of the nation's stingiest defenses. He's near the top of the national rankings in both sacks and tackles for loss."
Schobel leads the Frogs in both tackles for loss (15) and in sacks (9.5). He is just one-half sack shy of tying the school record, set by his cousin, Aaron, in 1999. Last week he was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for his 3.0-sack performance at USF, as the Frogs broke the Bulls' 21-game home winning streak.
Schobel has helped the Horned Frog defense rank among the nation's best in rushing defense, total defense and scoring defense. The Frogs rank third in the country in rushing defense, allowing just 61.8 yards per game on the ground, rank fourth in total defense, surrendering just 259.2 yards per contest, and rank fourth in scoring defense, allowing just 12.0 points per game.
The Frogs enter Saturday's 6:05 p.m.Homecoming game against UAB ranked 13th in the nation according to the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll and 16th in the country in the Associated Press Poll. The Frogs are just one of five undefeated Division I teams in the country and are tied with Oklahoma for the nation's longest winning streak at eight consecutive games.
