Rifle competes well at home

FORT WORTH, Texas - The rifle team played host to the 13th annual Horned Frog Invitational this weekend. The team also competed and placed fourth in air rifle and third in the team's first smallbore event of the season.
"We had tough competition, but I think the team did very well," coach Roger Ivy said. "Nikki had her best shots for both air and smallbore and some girls were close to their team high scores."
Sophomore Celeste Green (Lufkin, Texas/Hewitt) led the team in both air rifle and smallbore with scores of 385 and 1158. She earned fourth place individual finishes for both events. Freshman Nikki LeCompte (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) shot her highest scores for the season with a 1106 in smallbore and 379 in air rifle. Those scores placed LeCompte in 15th for smallbore and eighth in air rifle.
Senior Nina Martinez (Houston, Texas/Jersey Village) shot her highest score for air rifle with a 377 and her highest for smallbore with a 1050. She placed 12 for air rifle and 18th for smallbore. Junior Jess Parras (Monahans, Texas/Monahans) shot a 1041 in smallbore and placed in the top 20 for that event. She shot a 361 in air rifle and placed 21st.
Junior Joncee Moulder (Weatherford, Texas/Weatherford) competed as an alternate and shot her best score of 348 in air rifle. She then matched her best score for smallbore with a 1034. Junior Stephanie Lawrenz (Corona Del Mar, Calif./Corona Del Mar) topped her previous air rifle marks with a score of 342 and competed in smallbore for the first time and shot a 912. Senior Dana O'Shea also competed as an alternate and shot a 331 in air rifle.
The Frogs will shoot at home again Saturday, Oct. 25 against Air Force.
